June 7, 2024 - Fly to Lancaster for Lunch |
||||||
Chip's daughter Amy had a birthday today so we all headed north to Lancaster Airport , Pennsylvania for a late lunch at Fiorentino's Italian Restaurant. The runway right into the wind was closed so everyone had to make a bit of a crosswind landing. Not a problem. I flew in Nhu-An's plane -- at right -- along with Russell. Brian and Mark's RV-8s are at left.
Charlie flew JJ's RV-82 -- Redline -- while Chip flew the Stearman. You don't usually see the Stearman fly this far.

Chip took off first in the Stearman followed by the three RVs and then us. The three RVs caught up with the Stearman. We were about half a mile behind. It was very cool to watch the RVs making diving and climbing runs on the Stearman. In a way you don't from another RV, from the 172 you could really get a sense for how agile and fast the RVs are. The RVs lined up in a left echelon formation on the Stearman for a photo shoot. While this was happening we passed the Stearman on the right. I may have given the RVs are hard time for being passed in a 172. Of course, there was payback time. After the photo shoot Mark and Brian passed us going fast on the left. |

And Charlie on the right. RVs don't pass other RVs, so it was cool for me to watch the RVs zoom past. Little fighter planes, RVs are.
